God’s Eye(s)

Scripture refers to God's Eyes, particularly in their capacity to notice and judge everything going on in human history, in the present, in your life and mine.

The Eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good(Prov 15:3)

Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the Eyes of Him to Whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13)

So as we pray for others, and for ourselves, let's not deceive them or us into ignoring God's peripheral Vision that notices everything.  Instead, let's welcome those Eyes to search us and know us, so that we can embrace the good and reject the evil in us.

Scripture also speaks of God's Eye, in the singular, referring to His seeing us with Love, that which forgives our evil and enables our good.

The Eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those Who hope for His Lovingkindness (Psalm 33:18)

I will guide you with My Loving Eye upon you (Psalm 32:8)

So in our praying, let's not neglect God's focused Vision on us and on others, that which sees people with Love, guiding away from evil to The One Who alone is good.  Instead, may this be our grateful prayer:

Keep me [and keep them] as the Apple of Your Eye (Psalm 17:8).

As we focus our attention on God, may you and I see ourselves reflected in The Apple of His Eye, and may we sense ourselves being encouraged to the good by the scanning of His Eyes.
