the sky’s falling!
As I write this, votes are currently being cast and tallied in the most polarizing national election in recent history (taking into account the short memories we have of 2020 and 2016!). A recent NBC News poll says that 80% of Americans believe that if the "other side" wins this election, it will be the end of democracy as we know it. As such, by sometime this week, 40% of us will believe the sky is falling. And perhaps it will be! We'll see.
Though God never guarantees us a stable sky, earth, or sea, He does guarantee that He will continue to be Stable on His Heavenly Throne, no matter what. David the Psalmist declares this in Psalm 11.
In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me, "Flee like a bird to your mountain! For look! The wicked bend their bows! They set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart! When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do!? (translation: "The sky is falling! What's a good person to do?")
The answer? Nothing ... except trust and act on behalf of the Lord on The Throne:
The Lord is in His Holy Temple; the Lord is on His Heavenly Throne. He observes everyone on earth; His Eyes examine them. (translation: "He's Secure, and He knows what's going on. He's not worried, and He invites His People to join Him in that.")
The Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, He hates with a passion. On the wicked He will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. (translation: "God expects His People to be at peace and to be people of peace, and He opposes any who advocate violence, including the violence of word or thought.")
For the Lord is righteous, He loves justice; the upright will see His Face.
Please join me in looking into the Secure and Peaceful Face of God this week and conveying His Perspective to others in how we speak, act, and pray.
