in relationship

As we consider our being created in God's Image, hotly-debated discussions of sex, gender, and expression emerge in some quarters.  Though "male" and "female" were clear enough for prior generations, this is not so today.  And yet, there is another aspect of our being image-bearers on which many can now agree.

God is the Holy Trinity, in essential relationship within Himself.  Relationship is at the heart of the universe and is intended to be so for those created in His likeness.

The joke is that Adam needed to be told that he was alone. He might have been contented to live for eternity in Eden with a can of beer and a remote.  It's no joke that this sad preference continues today despite the proliferation of social media.  There is a profound epidemic of loneliness in the U.S., with the young most severely afflicted.  It is not good that we are, or feel, alone.

God has created us to be helpers to one another, whether we are extroverted or introverted.  We need to push past the temptation to live as islands unto ourselves, particularly in the now-disintegrating "nuclear" family, which is melting down.

Take a moment to assess your relational health.  Are you in community or in isolation?  Are you connected to at least a few others, or is your heart lonely?  If others were to discover that The One Who created all things is in Relationship, would they see that fact reflected in your life?  Allow God to lead you in relationships that you were born and reborn for.
